Treating Gum Disease
Gum disease often develops quietly—but can lead to swelling, bleeding, and even tooth loss if untreated. At Pine Lawn Dental in St. Louis, we use advanced cleaning techniques and home-care coaching to remove harmful bacteria below the gumline, restore gum health, and prevent future flare-ups.
Signs You May Need Periodontal Care
If you notice any of these symptoms, schedule a visit with our general dentists as soon as possible:
- Bleeding when brushing or flossing
- Red, swollen, or tender gums
- Persistent bad breath or bad taste
- Receding gums or teeth that look longer
- Loose or shifting teeth
- Build-up of plaque or calculus around the gums
What to Expect With Periodontal Therapy
- Comprehensive Evaluation – We measure gum pockets and assess bone support to understand your current health.
- Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning) – Plaque and tartar are gently removed beneath the gums. Root surfaces are smoothed to help gums reattach and heal.
- Irrigation or Medication (as needed) – Antibacterial rinses or localized antibiotics may be used to reduce bacteria.
- Re-evaluation & Maintenance – After healing, we’ll schedule regular cleanings (every 3–4 months) to keep bacteria under control.
- Home-Care Coaching – We’ll show you how to brush and floss effectively to protect your progress.
Our goal: Treat gum disease early and preserve your natural teeth for life.
